| December 2006 Get a free CD from us! Many of you may already know about our MySpace page and some of you may already have paid it a visit-- if so, thanks! But, if you have a MySpace page yourself, and you are one of the lucky 100th people to send us a "friend request", you'll get a free copy of Taking Something Somewhere! Just like that! Skist, Samm and haruna play at Osaka's Festival Beyond Innocence this month. Lots of other great performers also. Chekku! Also a night put together by Skist at the cozy Loopline in Sendagaya. Joining us on the bill will be our good friend Carl Stone, and the lovely electronic spoken word duo almglocken. October 2006 Apple's iTunes is now carrying Skist tracks from Ellipsis and Taking Something Somewhere. Skist just returned from its Australia tour which covered Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane. Many, many thanks to all the people who came out to see us, and thanks in particular to Lawrence English of ::ROOM40:: for kicking (well actually more like gently yet firmly coaxing) us back into shape and making this possible. Hope to be back before long, it's such a fantastic place. September 2006 Taking Something Somewhere is OUT NOW! Though we very much want to get an online shop up and running here on polarityrecords.net, for now it is available from the reputable and quite wonderful CD BABY. Or, alternatively, you can order it directly from us (email info[at]polarityrecords.net) and we'd be delighted to send you a copy. August 2006 SKIST NEW ALBUM! (really) O.K., What happened there (see below), you say? I know, I'm sorry. We weren't as far along as we'd hoped, and time just whizzed by, and now it's more than one full year on. But we've ARRIVED, and the new album will be out on September 30, to coincide with Skist's tour of east Australia! (details to come). Yes, you have our word this time, cuz the master is at the pressing plant as we speak. Titled Taking Something Somewhere, the latest Skist sound is a departure from the largely electronically-driven rhythms and processing of the first album, and is, as we predicted, more stripped down, more live. Lyrically and vocally, it is much more personal. The album features eight new tracks, and we've decided to bring down the retail price to 1500 yen. Hopefully we'll have our online shop up and running soon this fall for listeners within Japan, and for ROW available at CD Baby in October. We'll keep you posted about these developments here on the news page. Hear some of the music here. See info on the album here. . June 2005: SKIST The 2nd Skist album (as yet untitled...) is approximately 80% recorded. So far, some of the new tracks have shaped up to be a bit like some of the material on our first release, ELLIPSIS, that is, somewhat pointillistic and "micro-event" oriented. Others, however, are much more stripped down, less crowded. And we're easing up on the rather extreme processing of Haruna's voice as heard on some of the tracks on ELLIPSIS. Expect to hear a warmer, more "natural" vocal sound on this next one. On the rhythm tip, there's more live playing in evidence, with Samm's focus moving more toward playing the WaveDrum, and less on programming. And when will it be out? Well, we're aiming toward September 2005, maybe October. But definitely before the new year! SAMM BENNETT Samm's been writing songs again with a vengeance: he's got enough material now for at least 3 records, maybe more... The first of his new song releases should be out before the end of 2005. |
